Willie James Boyd, 93, of 118 Dunham Circle, Cowpens, South Carolina and formerly of 185 Pacolet Rd., Cowpens, South Carolina passed on Friday, November 11, 2022. He was born on October 24, 1929 in Cowpens, South Carolina, to the late Amos S. Boyd and the late Tessie Dudley Boyd.
At the age of 24, he married Mary Jane Norris of Gaffney, South Carolina, and shared that union for 42 years until her death in 1996.
Later in life he married Julie Mae Collins until her death in 2013, and with this union he had an extended family of 4 step-children, Juan Collins, Sibyl Lawrence, Holly Boyd, and Chris Collins, and 7-step grandchildren.
From his union of 42 years with Mary Jane, two daughters were born, Iva J. Boyd (Richard) Brown and Michelle Boyd Dover, both of Spartanburg, South Carolina; 2 grandchildren, Dudley (Rochelle) Brown, of Spartanburg, South Carolina; Ashley Brown, of Madison, Wisconsin; one bonus grandson, Ramon (Michelle) Camp of Forest City, North Carolina; and one great-granddaughter Ruby Williams-Brown of Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Mr, Willie James Boyd has one surviving brother, Gerald (Betty-deceased) Boyd of Atlanta, Georgia.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Willie James Boyd was pre-deceased by one sister, Doris Mims, one niece, Sylvia M. Daniel and one sister-in-law, Betty Boyd.
Willie James was a 1947 graduate of Taylors High School in Cowpens, South Carolina; and was retired from Siemens in Roebuck, South Carolina.
He was a strong proud man who loved his family, his church and his community. He was very active in his church, Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Cowpens, South Carolina; where he served as Assistant Sunday School Superintendent, Usher Board, past Church Treasurer, and choir member. He was always willing to give others a helping hand. He had many friends whom he often enjoyed talking to on the phone, and he loved socializing with his many friends at the Senior Center in Cowpens, South Carolina. Winning at Bingo was definitely a highlight for him.
He loved collecting Obituaries from funerals and if he couldn’t attend he would always ask someone to make sure they brought him one afterwards.
His presence will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, November 16th, 2022, at 1:00p.m. at Callaham-Hicks Funeral Home Chapel, and burial at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, South Carolina.
